Billy’s journey as a front end designer/developer began, oddly enough, while he was pursuing a Master’s degree in sculpture.

He jumped head first into the world of HTML, CSS, and jQuery while building a custom Wordpress theme to showcase his artwork.

Because he doesn’t remember choosing to start a career in web development, he likes to believe that the discipline chose him.

At 8th Light, Billy is responsible for managing design, front–end development and content strategy for various client projects. He’s a web design generalist, but likes the perspective it grants him.

Recently, he has spoken at Chicago’s TechWeek Conference about Web Typography and at S.C.N.A. on the topic of Front End Craftsmanship. In October 2011, his redesign of 8thlight.com was featured on the well known design blog Fonts In Use.

In his free time, Billy enjoys reading, making soap, building model airplanes and taking hikes with his wife Aemelia and a scruffy little dog named George.

He holds a B.A. in Studio Art and English from Wabash College (2006) and an M.F.A. in Sculpture from Tufts University (2009).
